Three Kings
So I’ve had some people ask me what this short film is going to be about.
To put it succinctly, it’s about a man who goes on an out-of-body journey to find the truth. As to what said truth is or why he is doing this is pretty much left ambiguous.
This is kind of a horror film and it kind of isn’t. I drew upon imagery that provoked feelings of dread or discomfort rather than do something as obvious as gore. as for my influences, I was studying films like The Brood, Suspiria, Phantasm and The Thing for various reasons like score, or interesting framing. I also drew upon stories about occultism, especially practices that my grandparents still do which are a remnant of their lives in the villages.
This film is also very minimalist: every thing that didn’t have a function was eliminated.
So I hope this works out, and I hope people get it. Even if people don’t, I hope they enjoy the images.
Three Kings - the trailer
So this is what I’ve been working on. It’s not quite finished and it’s really only a trailer to a more developed idea I have, but I was so excited to upload it anyway.
The actor is my forever patient partner, Russell.
Everything else was done by me…mostly. I’ve had some excellent input given to me by Russ and this is quite an improvisational project,not only in terms of performance but with exploration of the very limited equipment that I had and what I could do with it.
